GLOBAL PEER MENTOR
Sharing Culture. Sharing Care. Sharing Community.
Dear Graduate and Professional Students,
Want to have fun while helping new international students adjust to life at Pitt? Want to make friends from around the world and connect with people from other countries and cultures?

Become a Graduate Global Ties peer mentor!

The Office of the Provost - Graduate Studies and Division of Student Affairs are launching a new peer mentoring program for incoming international graduate and professional students called Graduate Global Ties. And we invite you to apply to be among this first cohort of peer mentors.
Graduate Global Ties mentors will actively welcome new international graduate students into Pitt’s campus community; support them as they adjust to Pittsburgh and their academic journey; and foster a sense of belonging, encouragement, and care. Each mentor will be paired with one mentee for the academic year based on similar academic interests and backgrounds.
As a peer mentor, you will be expected to:
-
Commit to being a mentor for the academic year.
-
Complete two hours of training over the summer (sessions will be synchronous or asynchronous). The training will cover common challenges and needs faced by international students, University and community resources, intercultural communication, and cultural humility.
-
Connect with mentees before the Fall term begins and at least once a month during the academic year.
-
Attend at least two social events sponsored by Graduate Global Ties during the academic year.
-
Maintain communication with the coordinator of Graduate Global Ties.
Time Commitment:
-
Approximately 1-2 hours a month per year.
If you would like to share your knowledge and experiences in graduate school with new international students, make sure to submit an application!
