2026-2027 EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS

Serve your graduate and professional community.

The five members of the GPSG Executive Board are elected by the graduate and professional student body.  ​​​The call for candidates for the 2026-2027 Executive Board will run from January 12 to February 9, 2026. 

Candidate information sessions are scheduled for:

  • January 14, 2026 at 12 p.m.

  • January 27, 2026 at 6 p.m.

Open Roles

President

Leads GPSG, represents graduate and professional students to the University, and sets priorities for the year.

VP of Finance

Oversees GPSG’s budget and funding to ensure responsible use of graduate student activity fees.

VP of Committees

Ensures graduate and professional students are represented on university‑wide committees.

VP of Programming

Plans events and programs that build community and support  students.

VP of Communications

Manages GPSG’s website, email, and social media to keep students informed and engaged.

Election and Training Timeline

  • January 12 - February 9: Call for candidates for 2026-2027 Executive Board open

  • February 10: Campaigning begins

  • February 16 – 22: Voting

  • February 23: Winners announced

  • Late March/Early April: Incoming Board Training

  • May 1: Term begins

Campaigning Guidelines

  • Candidates may begin formal campaigning starting on February 10. Candidates may tell other people that they intend to run before this date, but may not engage in activities that encourage other people to vote for them (mass emails, flyering, etc.). Campaigning early will result in disqualification.

  • Campaigning is candidate driven. GPSG will not endorse any candidates, although we will offer equal opportunities to be featured on our social media, website, and email newsletters.

  • All candidate, photos, biographies and statements will be posted to the GPSG website. Please encourage students to check out the website to learn more about you.

  • You may also encourage students to vote for you through social media, your email lists, and tabling and your school. Other suggestions include: 

    • Distributing or posting flyers (please adhere to the University posting policy)

    • Contacting your school for information regarding tabling

    • Gathering support from your school and students group of which you are a part

    • Emailing listservs and posting on groupchats

    • Connecting to students from other schools

  • You are not expected to incur any cost while campaigning.

  • Negative campaigning will result in candidate disqualification.

Duties of the Executive Board

The EB consists of five elected representatives chosen by all the graduate and professional students at the University of Pittsburgh. The officers of the GPSG Executive Board (EB) are the President, the Vice President of Committees, the Vice President of Communications, the Vice President of Finance, and the Vice President of Programming. The Vice Presidents of the EB shall each have a vote at the meetings of the Assembly Board. Only in the event of a tie will the President cast the tie-breaking vote. Any graduate student or professional student at the University of Pittsburgh is eligible to be an officer of the GPSG Executive Board as outlined in the GPSG Bylaws Article II, Section A.

The duties of the Executive Board are:

  • To act as advocates for graduate and professional students.

  • To approve the appointment of Executive Administrator for GPSG.

  • To create the agenda for AB meetings.

  • To execute the resolutions of the AB.

  • To carry out the duties of the individual offices as specified in the GPSG Bylaws Article II.

  • To support all GPSG sponsored events.

  • To attend all AB meetings and to confer as needed between each regularly scheduled AB meeting.

  • To convene, regular, and maintain any committees pertinent for the completion of the duties of the position, as described in GPSG Bylaws, Article II.

  • To bring persistent material disagreements within the EB regarding GPSG affairs to the AB and the GPSG Advisor for resolution.

Submit your candidacy via the button below. You will need a photo, a candidate statement, and a biography (no more than 500 words combined). We will also ask you a few questions to help voters get to know you better. If you'd like to run, but you're not ready to submit your materials yet, you can also email gpsg@pitt.edu with your name, program, and intended position. Please note that all materials will be due by February 9.

 

 

 

After you submit, look for follow-up emails from gpsg@pitt.edu with more information about campaigning and voting. The campaign period begins February 10.
